APECS Online Conference 2017

The third annual APECS Online Conference was held on 20 March 2017. With 6 sessions spanning a total of 18 hours, it was a marathon effort! We had presenters from a whole range of countries taking part, and the session scheduling meant that a mix of disciplines were included in each time slot. As a member of the organising committee, I’m really glad that things went smoothly, and delighted to have made the recording available online via the APECS vimeo channel: https://vimeo.com/channels/apecsonlineconference

I’ve been rather quiet on this blog lately, but that doesn’t mean all has been stagnant on the polar research front! With 5 months to go until my thesis hand in date, getting chapters edited is becoming an ever more pressing priority. I talked about one of my early chapter (on the theme of Heroism) and the APECS conference, and you can hear all about it here:

Cyril and I have also been working on a trans-Tasman project, looking at Antarctic job recruitment and advertising. We got talking about the topic at SCAR 2016, because Cyril recognised parallels in our work. This week we outlined our observations in session one of the conference – it’s still very preliminary, but I’m looking forward to exploring this area further:
