The violent upheavals of frozen sea
Thrust up against the wind an icy shield
Endure in the face of sublimity
Still gales do howl and batter ship to lee
The wooden hull will buckle and then yield
To violent upheavals of frozen sea
The men can naught but look on helplessly
At nature’s strength in ice, pure force revealed;
Endure in the face of sublimity
Yet still the crystals sparkle, eerily
Even as visceral values are appealed
In violent upheavals of frozen sea
To refuse life now would not be heresy
They drag full sleds across the frozen field;
Endure in the face of sublimity
What lies between these men and sure safety?
Hope and memories: both now congealed
The violent upheavals of frozen sea
Endure in the face of sublimity
